Short description:
PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) is an industrial spinout from the Volvo Group which develops and produces fuel cell power systems with world class energy density for stationary, marine and mobile customer applications. The fuel cells are powered by hydrogen, pure or reformed, and produce electricity and heat with no emissions other than water. As the stacks and systems are compact, modular and scalable, they are easily adjusted to any customer need. PowerCell’s leading fuel cell technology covers a wide range of applications including the world’s first flight with a commercial single engine aircraft powered by a hydrogen fuel cell to a 3 megawatt marine fuel cell system. PowerCell’s technological position has rendered the company partnerships with leading industrial enterprises like Robert Bosch GmbH, Siemens and Hitachi ABB Power Grids.

Role in the project:
PowerCell will supply REVIVE partner Renova with a complete fuel cell system and support them with integration, homologation and aftersales care. PowerCell has extensive experience with EU funded projects in the field of fuel cell stacks and systems. Past and current projects include FCGEN in which a 3 kW diesel fuelled APU system was developed; AutoStack Moves and Autostack CORE which developed best-in-class automotive stack hardware with superior power density and performance while meeting the commercial target cost; Inn-Balance where a fuel cell system built around the AutoStack Core technology was integrated into a passenger vehicle in cooperation with Volvo Cars; Maranda in which the AutoStack Core technology was adapted to a marine environment and optimized to reach a lifetime of more than 20.000 hours; and Autostack Industrie, a German state funded project to develop the next generation automotive fuel cell stack and production methods in cooperation with Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford and VW.
